Evidence-led competitor monitoring

How to monitor competitors in AI search

Monitor competitors by repeating frozen buyer questions on named AI surfaces, then comparing mentions, recommendation stance, citations, factual support, and coverage. The object is the public answer—not a competitor's private analytics—and the result is an observed sample, not a stable universal rank.

One free Quick Diagnosis per account

Start with a confirmed brand and buyer-question baseline

Enter the business, service area, and optional website. GeoCheckTool carries them into the official account-backed workflow, where you confirm facts and buyer questions before the one free Quick Diagnosis runs.

The intake opens the official GeoCheckTool workflow. You confirm Business Facts and buyer questions before any Quick run. No credit card is required for the one free Quick Diagnosis.

Competitor monitoring means observing public AI answers—not private competitor data

A defensible comparison starts from the same buyer need, question, route, and sample method for every named brand. It records what the public answer says and which public sources support it. It does not imply access to a competitor's internal performance, and it does not convert one answer into a market-wide score.

A six-step competitor AI-search monitoring workflow

  1. 1. Freeze the buyer-question set

Start with the questions real buyers ask. Keep the wording, intent, locale, and inclusion rule stable so a later observation is not a different test.

  2. 2. Name competitors and categories

Record the brands that must be checked and the category alternatives that may appear without being preselected. Do not treat every unlisted company as absent from the market.

  3. 3. Name the actual AI surface

Record the provider, interface or API route, access mode, locale, date, and method version. A model API is not automatically the corresponding signed-in consumer application.

  4. 4. Repeat and preserve every sample

Keep answered, no-mention, no-surface, not-run, timeout, invalid, and provider-failed samples separate. Do not turn missing coverage into a zero score.

  5. 5. Compare evidence, not just mentions

For each answer, preserve the mention, recommendation stance, cited URL, supported claim, factual conflict, and observable next action.

  6. 6. Retest the same cohort

After a verified action, repeat the same question, route, locale, and sample method. Mark method drift and non-comparable cohorts instead of claiming improvement from unlike samples.

Compare six evidence fields, not one opaque visibility score

FieldWhat to preserve
MentionWas the brand named in the answer? A literal mention is not automatically a recommendation.
StanceWas the brand recommended, neutrally listed, criticized, or excluded? Preserve the answer language.
CitationWhich source URL appeared, if any? A citation alone does not prove that it supports the associated claim.
Factual supportDoes the cited source support the exact product, capability, price, or operator fact in the answer?
Question fitDid the answer address the frozen buyer need, including veto dimensions and scenario constraints?
CoverageHow many planned observations answered, returned no surface, were not run, or failed for a named reason?

From a free baseline to repeated monitoring

Each account can run one free Quick Diagnosis after confirming business facts and buyer questions. Quick is a bounded baseline, not a promise of continuous or universal consumer-app tracking.

The current Monitor subscription is $29 per month and grants 800 credits per billing period. A Formal batch uses 200 credits, supports up to 8 selected questions, and uses n=5 per available surface. Four batches fit within the current periodic grant when no other credit operations consume it.

Competitor AI-search monitoring FAQ

How can I monitor my competitors’ performance in AI search?

Freeze the buyer questions, competitor set, named AI surfaces, locale, and sample method. Repeat the observations, preserve mentions, stance, citations, factual support, and missing states, then compare only a later cohort with the same scope.

Does competitor AI-search monitoring access private competitor data?

No. This method observes public AI answers and public cited sources. It does not access a competitor’s internal analytics, prompts, customer data, accounts, or private performance records.

Is mention share the same as an AI ranking?

No. Mention share describes the observed sample for a frozen question and surface cohort. It is not a stable rank, a complete market measure, or proof of recommendation or business impact.

Can I start competitor monitoring for free?

Each GeoCheckTool account can run one free Quick Diagnosis after confirming business facts and buyer questions. The current route and sample boundaries remain visible; the free entry does not promise continuous tracking or consumer-app coverage.

What does the GeoCheckTool Monitor plan include?

The current Monitor subscription is $29 per month and grants 800 credits per billing period. A Formal batch uses 200 credits, supports up to 8 selected questions, and uses n=5 per available surface. Availability and price are current public product facts, not a result guarantee.
